A typical street or travel image from Cuba is an older man sitting on a doorstep smoking a cigar in Trinidad. Yes, a man smoking a cigar in Cuba is as common as a cigar, but I still like the expression or gesture of this individual. The older man is wearing a fedora hat and sitting a the doorstep of one of the shops in Trinidad, Cuba.
The Cuban gentleman was not a random individual that I photographed in the many streets of the world where I travel. In Cuba, many of these individuals sit there all day, posing for tourists. I talked to him briefly – or at him as he did not respond – but he did understand enough English to assist in my posing him in a fascinating photographic composition. I wanted the expression on his face. I feel that I captured nicely in this photograph.
