Monument Valley Mittens at Dusk
The Utah-Arizona state line is one place that leaves you speechless with its raw beauty. With my permit to photograph Monument Valley, I shot this just after the sun had dipped below the horizon and left a warm glow on the desert. The West and East Mitten Buttes stand tall and proud. They are called the Mittens because they resemble two giant mittens with thumbs in.
These are not just rocks—they are the remains of the Rocky Mountains, shaped by the forces of nature over millions of years. The West Mitten Butte is 1,882 meters high, and the East Mitten Butte is 1,898 meters high. Their presence over Monument Valley reminds us of the power of geology and time.
I felt connected to this timeless landscape as I watched the last light of day hit the desert. The silence, broken only by the wind, added to the sense of calm and wonder. This fine-art colorful photo print will bring peace and awe to your space.
