Abandoned commercial business

Here is another of the series of abandoned buildings that I have been adding to Kozzi over the years. I photographed this building about 15 years ago, driving through rural roads in Georgia. But that is about all I can remember of it now.

This building looks like it has not been attended to in decades. The overgrowth of trees and bushes overwhelms the property. What was once sizeable prominent signage from the old decaying structure is now barely readable. The only noticeable feature of this street signage is the plastic parking sign. You cannot read anything on the wood panels, just peeling paint.

The windows are still intact in this image. I converted this Urban photo to black and white to accentuate the visual feel of being old and forgotten. Even on the windows, the dried-out brushes cover large portions of the storefront.

Carrying on the theme of once forgotten, I have questions to contemplate when looking at photographs of lost and forgotten buildings. What was this store like? The chair symbol on the sign suggests that it is a furniture store. Was it popular? Was the business in this photograph someone’s labor of love, and one of the many recessions over the decades was the last straw, which led to bankruptcy? We will never know. Will such stores ever return in favor of society? Let your imagination create your answers.
